The origins of the Escuela
de Hostelería de Leioa go back more than 20 years, specifically
to 1981, when the outlook for the future demand for cooks made it propitious
to undertake this ambitious project.
Its first location was a guesthouse next to the Plentzia
River where training in cooking was given to a single group of students.
However, the philosophy inherent to Vocational Training advises that hands-on
practical training is the only way to teach an activity like cooking, so the
Campus of the Universidad de Leioa was decided on as the definitive location
of the school in 1983.
Since then, the school, already known as the Escuela de Hostelería de
Leioa, has offered thousands of meals a day, a professional product of its students’
work, in its three dining halls.
